The destiny turning trees into plus giants or minus dwarfs is mainly governed by inherited pathways, namely the gross primary production, rather than environment, as conventionally believed by most foresters. The key to individual productivity of a tree lies in the balance of credit and expenditure items of the budget. The primary control is occurrence of large inputs to development of root system and nutrition reserves. Giants and dwarfs are the extreme forms of interspecific variability. The total variability consists of 5–6 groups of forms supporting adaptation of the seeds to habitat of an ecotope.
