The terminology characterizing the fire resistance of tree species to the influence of fire is considered. The terms "fire resistance" and "pyrophytic ability" of a tree, plantation of forest stand are suggested to be united in the single term "pyrogenic characteristics". The definition of pyrogenic characteristics and the trees adaptive potential are given. The levels and kinds of fire resistance of trees are described.
