The age dynamics of phytocenoses were studied on permanent sample plots arranged more than 25 years ago in the protected area Lokhin Ostrov and Serebryanoborsky Forestry. In the fl oodplain oak forest, the arboreal layer has changed the most. Oak trees signifi cantly decline and are substituted for lime trees. In the ground cover, the share of nemoral and nemoral-boreal species increased, and that of bog, meadow-forest species, and species of alder forests was lowered. The signs of anthropogenic effects on the forests disappeared. On the natural levee in the complex pine forest, oak trees began to fall out of the second layer with a simultaneous formation of the third layer consisting of lime trees. In the grass cover, Mercurialis perennis appeared and became a dominant. The elimination of oak trees is characteristic of all the sample plots. The fl oodplain oak forest is one of the developmental stages in the formation of a broadleaved stand with the predominance of lime trees.
