Severe ecological conditions determine a paradoxical existence of forest-steppe larch forests in the boreal zone. Adverse effects of climatic factors and attenuation of relations between ecosystems and their entomological complexes explain this paradox. Dendrophagous insects become more aggressive, and the role of insects as regulators of matter and energy fluxes decreases. This situation often leads to a decline of larch forests and replacement of them by more stable steppe communities.
