The development of broad-leaved species was studied under the canopy in water-regulation forests near the Pavlovskii Reservoir. In extreme forest-growing conditions, the normal growth of trees was slowed down. In the first subgroup of virginal age state, the formation of xylorhizome (linden, elm, and maple) and xylopodium (oak) was also retarded. The frequency of developing the xylorhizome in every broad-leaved species was different. It was 89.6-100.0% in linden, 69.2-94.7% in elm, 50.0-86.8% in maple, and 28.9-32.1% (for xylorhizome) and 20.5-34.3% (for xylopodium) in oak. The changes in habitus of broad-leaved regrowth have an adaptive importance for supporting the integrity of ontogeny.
