Anisotropy of soils means changes in soil properties in horizontal and vertical directions. In the yew-box grove of the Caucasus Reserve, anisotropy is formed under the influence of two factors - mountain and biological. The action of the mountain factor is expressed in heterogeneous parent rocks; biological factor is an effect of plant roots and litter. The combined influence of these factors is reflected in changes of pH, litter mass, the contents of carbonates, humus, exchangeable cations, and general specific surface.
