The current continuous distribution of several tree species is compared to their point distribution obtained according to literature data with the use of toponymy data of the last centuries in European Russia. The species may be divided into two groups. The first group includes Tilia cordata, Ulmus scabra, and U. laevis, the reestablished ranges of which exceed insignificantly the present-day areas. The second group consists of Carpinus betulus and Quercus robur. The recreated ranges of these species exceed significantly the current ones. The position of the Picea abies and P. obovata ranges are intermediate. The reconstruction of the tree species ranges allows one to suggest that in the historical time, coniferous-broad-leaved forests were more widespread in ihe territory of European Russia than at the present time. The results obtained are regarded as the first step towards the creation of a map of the restored forest vegetation
